Support

Everything you need to record your screen and camera with a teleprompter, captions, and cursor effects.

Get in touch

Stuck on something, or have a request? Email support@actionrecordapp.com or use the contact form below. Please include your macOS version and a short description of what happened.

01Make your first recording

  1. Open the floating control bar.
  2. Choose what to capture: your whole display or a single window.
  3. Turn on the tools you want, like the teleprompter, captions, or effects.
  4. Press Record. A short countdown gives you time to get ready.
  5. Press Stop when you finish. Your recording opens for review.

02Granting permissions

macOS asks permission the first time Action uses each capability. If you skipped a prompt, grant access in System Settings › Privacy & Security, then relaunch Action if asked.

Screen Recording
Required to capture your display.
Camera & Microphone
For your webcam and narration.
Speech Recognition
For captions and the voice-following teleprompter.
Input Monitoring
For the keystroke overlay and the zoom hotkey.

03The teleprompter

Open the teleprompter from the control bar and turn it on with the switch in the panel header. It floats a readable overlay you can resize and reposition. There are three modes:

Script

A full script that auto-scrolls, or follows your voice when you turn on Follow My Voice. It advances as you speak and pauses when you do. You can also draft a script on-device with AI.

Talking Points

One point per line. Each one checks off as you cover it. On-device language matching recognizes natural paraphrasing, so you do not have to read the words exactly.

Notes

Free-form rich text you read at your own pace. Use ⌘ B, ⌘ I, or ⌘ U to format. Drag the panel edges to resize it.

04Cursor and keystroke effects

Keystrokes and zoom need Input Monitoring permission.

05Captions and music

Turn on the transcript to see live captions of what you say while you record. Add a track from the built-in royalty-free library; it is mixed softly under your audio when the recording is saved, so your voice stays clear.

06After you record

When you stop, your recording opens for review right away. From there you can play it back, rename it, reveal it in Finder, or delete it. Recordings save to the folder you set in Settings › Recording.

07Action Pro

Action's core recording tools, cursor effects, and Notes teleprompter are free. Action Pro unlocks Script and Talking Points modes, voice following, on-device script drafting, live captions, and Pro recording quality: resolutions above 1080p, 60 fps where supported, HEVC, and HDR in Screen Only mode when HEVC is selected and Live Captions are off. Open Action Pro from Settings or the menu bar to see plans and pricing.

Manage or cancel your subscription

Subscriptions are billed and managed through your Apple Account, not inside Action. Open the App Store app, select your account, then Subscriptions, and choose Action Pro to change plans, cancel, or view your billing history.

Restore Action Pro on a new Mac

Sign in with the same Apple Account and choose Restore Purchases on the Action Pro screen. Family Sharing members can also access Action Pro this way if the subscriber has turned on sharing.

08Troubleshooting

Recording will not start

Grant Screen Recording in System Settings › Privacy & Security, then relaunch Action.

No captions appear

Turn on the transcript, and make sure Speech Recognition and Microphone are allowed.

Keystrokes are not showing

Show Keystrokes and the zoom hotkey require Input Monitoring permission.

Saved files are not where I expect

Check the save folder in Settings › Recording. You can change it at any time.

Action Pro isn't unlocking after I subscribed

Open Action Pro from Settings and tap Restore Purchases. If it still doesn't unlock, confirm the purchase went through in the App Store app under your account's Subscriptions, then relaunch Action.
